Electrical contractors based in New Orleans.

How to choose an electrician

  1. Check the state license yourself. The Louisiana State Licensing Board for Contractors (LSLBC) licenses electrical work: its Electrical classification covers wiring, fixtures and equipment that supply electricity, and the board says it applies when the job's value exceeds $10,000 (LSLBC). Ask for the license number and look it up on the board's own search, by number or by company name. The badges in this guide link to the board's record.
  2. The electrician pulls the permit. The City requires an electrical permit to install, repair, replace or alter electrical equipment (changing a light bulb or a fuse is the exception), and only an electrical contractor holding the City's Class "A" Electrical License can get one (City of New Orleans). In Jefferson Parish, electrical work has to be filed for inspection before it starts, and replacing or adding a panel, light fixture, ceiling fan, switch or outlet has to be filed by a Jefferson Parish licensed electrician (Jefferson Parish). Ask who files the permit and when the inspection is.
  3. Get the job in writing. For a panel change, a rewire or a generator hookup, ask for a written quote that names the work and the equipment, and compare the same things across quotes.
  4. Ask about after-hours calls. Do they answer nights and weekends, and does an after-hours visit cost more? Ask before the power goes out.

How this list was built

Who's listed. A company is listed when it is based in Orleans or Jefferson Parish, has a phone, and either holds an active LSLBC license in the Electrical classification, or appears in public business listings under an electrician or electrical-installation category. Duplicates (same phone) are listed once. We also need to confirm a real local base: an LSLBC match, or a street address in the parish shown on the company's own website next to the same phone, or on a City of New Orleans occupational license.

Who's left out. A license held under a person's own name; retail stores and supply houses; companies whose name says their main trade is something else (general construction, plumbing, air conditioning, security, solar, signs and the like); companies found only on the LSLBC roster, in no electrician listing, whose name doesn't say electrical (many builders, developers and institutions hold the license for their own work); and listings that look like call-routing services rather than a local company: an out-of-state phone number, three or more different names on near-identical phone numbers, a throwaway ".site" web address, or a name made of a city plus a service, unless it matches the board's records. Companies whose base we couldn't confirm are left out too, for now. If we left your company out by mistake, use the form below and we'll add it.

What a listing shows. Name, phone, base city, a website we checked (it loaded and showed the same phone number), and the LSLBC license with the year LSLBC first issued it, when the company matches LSLBC's records by exact phone or exact name. A missing badge only means we couldn't match a company to those records with certainty. Ask the company for its number and check it.

Order. Alphabetical. Nobody pays to be listed, and whether a company works with autoants never changes its order or how it looks.

What we never show. Star ratings or reviews, and anything that isn't a public fact about the company.

Dates. License data from LSLBC's roster as of October 20, 2026; business listings gathered October 19, 2026.
