Jefferson Parish requires its own parish license to trim or remove trees, or to plant and maintain vegetation, on public property such as sidewalks, parkways, medians and parks. A tree service operator must first hold a state arborist license, and a landscaper a state horticulturist, landscape contractor or related license (Code of Ordinances sec. 37-20).

Check the LDAF arborist license, get the work and the price in writing, and ask for an insurance certificate sent by the insurer. The full buyer's guide has the rules and the citations.
