HVAC in Greater New Orleans

Listings are coming. This guide lists only businesses that appear on a public licensing record, and for HVAC contractors we're waiting on the LSLBC's roster of Mechanical (HVAC) license holders, requested as a public record. Until then, here are the rules and how to check a license yourself.

How to hire: the Louisiana rules

What license does an HVAC company need in Louisiana?

Louisiana has no separate HVAC board. Heating, air conditioning and refrigeration work with a project value of $10,000 or more needs the LSLBC Mechanical license, and the HVAC subclassification sits under it. Smaller repairs may not need a state contractor license, so ask what the company holds.

What is EPA Section 608 certification?

Federal rules require anyone who opens a refrigerant circuit to pass an EPA-approved exam. It certifies people, not companies, so ask whether the technician coming to your house holds it.

What goes in an HVAC contract?

For licensed work, the written contract carries the contractor's name, address and license number, the work and the price. Work shouldn't start before it's signed.
